The Ministry of Public Education and Culture reported that for prevention school activities are suspended in the 18 municipalities.
MAZATLAN. – Through a statement, the Ministry of Public Education issued the notice of suspension of classes in the 18 municipalities of the state due to the forecast of torrential rains as a result of Storm ‘Kay’.
The suspension of classes is aimed at all basic education students, from kindergarten to high school, in the case of universities it will be the same campus authorities who determine whether there will be classes or not.
In fact, the Autonomous University of Sinaloa (UAS) issued a statement explaining the suspension of classes, but only for the morning shift.
The decision to suspend school activities was made at the meeting held by CONAGUA and State Civil Protection, where they analyzed Kay’s trajectory and behavior.
When is Kay’s situation?
Tropical storm “Kay” is located southwest of the coast of Michoacán.
It is expected to cause very heavy rains with intense points (75 to 150 millimeters) in Sinaloa, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán and Tamaulipas.
The week marks an 80 percent chance of heavy rain Tuesday and Wednesday, and a 90 percent chance Thursday through Friday. Kay is expected to upgrade from a tropical storm to a Category 2 hurricane by Wednesday.
The aforementioned rains may be accompanied by electric shocks, strong gusts of wind and possible hail, in addition to increasing the levels of rivers and streams and causing landslides and flooding in low-lying areas.
