Migrants head to the United States
MAZATLAN. – A large caravan of over 2,000 migrants, most of them from Venezuela, left Tapachula, on the border with Guatemala, last Friday with the idea of crossing the border to the United States.
This is the third caravan that leaves the southern border in less than a month, and the ninth this year, where migrants will go backpacking through various parts of the country in search of reaching the United States and fulfilling their objective. .
One of the stops could be Sinaloa, due to its rail connection with the northern border of the country.
In the port of Mazatlán, there is the San Francisco de Asís parish, which becomes a help point for migrants, which is located in the Salvador Allende neighborhood, about 500 meters from the railroad tracks.
Father Fray Agustín García, expressed that there is no certainty that the caravan will reach the port, but it could and if it does, they will be supported with food like all migrants who go in search of help.
“Breakfast hours are handled from 9:00 to 10:00 in the morning, either hot or cold, depending on the number of visitors, and the food that is almost always available is tuna, cookies, water or juices,” he said.
For more than 15 years, the parish has carried out the work of offering food and baths to migrants who arrive in Mazatlan fleeing from their countries of origin.
Omar Lizárraga Morales, president of Mazatlán Fraterno, an association that supports migrants in transit through Mazatlán, Sinaloa, said that they will be aware of the development of the caravan and its possible arrival at the port.
«Yes, well, we are waiting for how the caravan develops. If it comes to Sinaloa, we organize basic assistance », he said.
