After his visit to Mérida, Yucatán, Mayor Luis Guillermo Benitez Torres agreed to receive advice to replicate some city governing models.

Mayor Luis Guillermo Benítez Torres returned from Mérida, Yucatán with fresh ideas that he will seek to replicate in Mazatlán.

Benítez Torres, indicated that it is a synergy plan with four important cities in the country, having, for now, the twinning with Mexico City in an agreement and hoping to also do so, first with Mérida and later with Monterrey.

In the case of the so-called ‘White City’ of Mérida, Yucatán maintained that significant alliances have already been achieved with its recent stay in the said entity, projecting to replicate its road system with pedestrian bridges that reduce the number of accidents and favor a better awareness on the part of the drivers, as well as in safety, donating by the municipality to Mérida, the accompaniment so that they also have their tourist application, such as the MZT Tourist App.

One of them, he said in an interview, is that work will begin on the creation of a Control, Command, Computing, Coordination, Communications and Intelligence Center (C5) for the port of Mazatlán, all in search of improving the safety of tourists and the Mazatlecos themselves.

The mayor of Mazatlan said that he was surprised by the C-5i facilities they have in Mérida, so he agreed with his counterpart, Renán Barrera Concha, and the governor of Yucatán, Mauricio Vila Dosal, to provide advice to transform Mazatlán.

“What we are going to bring, and before the end of our term, we are going to have a world-class C-5 implemented,” said Benitez Torres.

Are resources needed? he was asked.

“Yes, but more than that, it takes care of desire, will and desire to improve the city. We are going to start working on it, I am going to send people to know how the software works, since they have different areas, many operators, but they protect the State”, he indicated.

He also said that another model to replicate is that businessmen will be asked to access their surveillance cameras in their businesses, to strengthen the preventive work of the SSPyTM.

“We will ask the businessmen to give us the opportunity to monitor their screens, those outside, not those inside, we are not interested in what they do inside, but we are interested in the security outside to strengthen our knowledge and thus be able to help the city in that sense”, he added.

He announced that next week he will have a private meeting with the high command of the Navy and the Army to rethink strategies and strengthen operations in the destination, especially due to the latest events that have been experienced, where a tourist was shot to death over the weekend in a palapa by the sea.

He also said that part of the strategy is that they seek to grant scholarships to the children of police officers, those who have the best academic achievement, with the firm idea that the police officer feels happy and well paid, and that before doing something illegal, think that the most important thing is that you have that resource.

Road culture

Another of the important points that will land in the city will be the implementation of pedestrian crossings with the clear idea that vehicles slow down and that passer-by is more respectful.

“It will not be something well received, but it has already worked for years, and this causes culture and respect for pedestrians to favor, and later we ourselves will say how good it was done, now the pedestrian is protected,” he stressed.

Brotherhood

A twinning will be carried out between Mexico City, Mérida, Monterrey and Mazatlán.

“Agreements are already being brought in for public safety support, good practices in city and road maintenance, since we have seen many accidents,” he said.
