Mazatlan. Given the proximity of the summer vacation period, handicraft vendors prepare themselves with the purchase of merchandise to cover the demand of national tourists.

The tenant of the José María Pino Suárez municipal market, Fernando Izquierdo, stated that for the next holiday period they have sales expectations of over 80% and weekends of 100%.

“In June you normally see a low, but apparently this year it will be different and for July and August we expect, like any high season, to be fabulous,” he said.

He commented that since February with the carnival to date, sales of handicrafts and souvenirs remain with an increase of 40% compared to 2020.

National tourists visit the Pino Suárez market.

He stated that May has been a good month in terms of the arrival of tourism due to the celebrations of Mother’s, Teachers’ and Students’ Day and this is reflected in sales.

“Mazatlan has benefited greatly from tourism and the economic impact is very good and reaches all sectors,” he said.

Mazatlan Benefited

The tenant pointed out that with the pandemic people really wanted to go out and since February with the Carnival, tourism has not stopped arriving at the destination every weekend and it has been very good commercially.

“Carnival was very good in sales, Easter too and we hope that summer will not be the exception to recover from two very difficult years” , he concluded.
