During the last months in Mazatlán, Rosario, and Escuinapa they have found several sites with vestiges of past cultures.

MAZATLÁN.- Sinaloa has an important cultural background of settlers who lived hundreds of years ago, and although in the capital region, the urban growth of the city of Culiacán left those memories buried, in the south, in towns such as Mazatlán, Rosario, and Escuinapa, recent discoveries have been made.

Servando Rojo Quintero, delegate of the National Institute of Anthropology and History, INAH, commented that recently, due to the construction of the Santa María dam, in that area of the municipality of Rosario, three sites with petroglyphs were found, adding up to seven located in the region, which shows the populations that preceded the current residents.

“Remember the two main settlements were Chametla de los Totorames and Los Tahues in Culiacán, that urban development ended a lot with the archaeological remains, but here in the south, there is a lot left, there are many mounds, a lot where there are pre-Hispanic remains there.”

In Mazatlán, a few weeks ago, thanks to the construction of a road in the northern part of the municipality, vestiges of the Aztatlán culture were found, where INAH personnel have been able to verify the presence of articles such as pots and bone remains that could be considered the first settlers of the town.

Likewise, weeks before in the municipality of Escuinapa, the discovery of two other archaeological sites with remains of the Tepehuana culture was made, which remains in the community of El Trébol, however, these vestiges date from the first decades of the year. 1300 after Christ.

With the construction of the Santa María dam, the INAH delegate estimates that more grades will be found in rocks, for this reason, they carry out an assessment so that the pre-Hispanic vestiges or ancient constructions are not lost, as in this case, which is he sought the preservation of the church.

All this, mentioned Rojo Quintero, shows the presence of different cultures in the entity for hundreds of years, which are gradually being discovered that there were more than those thought to have existed, most of the discoveries have been made by accidents.
