Mazatlan, Sinaloa. – Among the proposals presented to the city council on the installation of a new sanitary landfill, one of them promises the production of electricity, which could become the solution for the final destination of waste in the port, informed the mayor, Luis Guillermo Benitez Torres.

The municipal mayor explained that this proposal is already being studied since they were even invited by the same developers of the project to Palm Beach, Florida, to observe the treatment that the garbage receives in their plants.

“There is no other way than to make it happen this year, but we are going to study; first if we can economically, second if the project is as they really tell us. They invite us to go to Palm Beach, Florida, which is where they have the closest plant, but if the plant is built here, it transforms garbage into energy, that energy will help us pay less for electricity in Mazatlan,” he stressed. Mayor.

Although he acknowledged that it is an attractive proposal, he insisted that the issue should be studied and consulted with the Councilors to “see those little details in the agreements”, since with the waste treatment project, the plant itself could generate electricity and It would save a large sum to the municipality.

“It is very attractive, practically we did not disburse any amount immediately, at least in the talk they let me know (…) we would pay for garbage collection, the original price they offer us is 310 pesos and doing a study, we it is more expensive for us to collect, move the garbage and transfer it to the dump. From the outset, it seems like a good option, but we have to study it to see those little details in the agreements”, he concluded.
