On May 5, 1899, the Manuel Romero Rubio Market opened its doors for the first time in Mazatlán, known today as Mercado Pino Suárez, a name decreed until February 14, 1915 in honor of the Vice President of Mexico, José María Pino Suárez, who was assassinated along with Francisco I. Madero a year after visiting Mazatlán in 1913.
The Municipal Market of Mazatlán “Pino Suárez” was designed and built by Mr. Alejandro Loubet, built in iron and steel and based on the Art Nouveau style, using the same techniques that were used 7 years earlier in the construction of the Eiffel Tower.
