The Senate endorsed the reforms to the Federal Animal Health Law that makes a list of prohibited substances such as clenbuterol in meat products.

With 98 votes in favor, the plenary session of the Senate of the Republic endorsed reforms to the Federal Animal Health Law, which punishes the use of a chemical substance, such as clenbuterol, in meat products for human consumption that affect the production of these foods.

With this ruling on the ban on clenbuterol, national and international standards and protection from the production of meat for human consumption are guaranteed.

With these reforms endorsed in the Senate, meat products will be able to generate confidence to be purchased by countries with which there are treaties, such as the North American market, according to the legislators.

The proposal, presented by Senator Olga Sánchez Cordero, also seeks to establish a clear list of prohibited substances. In addition to sanctioning three and up to seven years in prison whoever distributes, orders or supplies clenbuterol and other chemical substances .

What substances besides clenbuterol did the Senate ban?

Clenbuterol is included in the list of substances established by the Senate.

The opinion considers substances or products prohibited for use or consumption in animals destined for the supply of Carbadox, Chloramphenicol, Clenbuterol Hydrochloride or Clenbuterol Hydrochloride or Clenbuterol or Clenbuterol, Phenylephrine Hydrochloride, Crystal violet, Coumarin in artificial flavors, Dienostrol, Diethylstilbestrol, Dimetridazole, Phenylthiouracil, Furaltadone, Furazolidone.

As well as Hexoestrol, Lindane, Methylthiouracil, Metronidazole, Nifupyrazine, Nifuraldezone, Nitrofurantoin, Nitrofurazone, Nitrovin, Olaquindox, Orciprenaline, Oxazolidone, Synthetic pigments from the Sudanese group, Propylthiouracil, Rodinazole or Ronidazole, Roxarsone, Salbutamol, Tapazol, Tinidazole and Thiouracil.

In addition, it specifies that Carbadox is prohibited for all adult pigs and also for all ages of other animal species intended for slaughter.

Olga Sánchez Cordero said she was happy with the approval of the reform promoted to penalize the use of prohibited substances for meat products, such as clenbuterol, with jail.

The president of the Board of Directors of the Senate is confident that with this reform they will seek to attack the impunity that exists for those who use substances such as clenbuterol, with the aim of inhibiting their use in fattening cattle and stopping the consequences they have for the health of the Mexicans.
