Accident or Assassinated?

Martín Humberto Ponce Félix, who allegedly was part of a financial network of Juan José Esparragoza Moreno, aka “El Azul”, one of the founders of the Sinaloa Cartel, died on Friday, April 22nd, in Mazatlan in a traffic accident.

According to local media reports, the subject participated in the international event “Motorcycle Week” and while driving on Avenida Camarón Sábalo, in the Golden Zone, he was hit by a Jeep.

The accident was reported on Friday at 11:30 a.m. and the identification of the subject was made until Saturday, April 23rd.

So far, no authority has officially confirmed Ponce’s death.

In 2012, the US Treasury Department targeted companies, relatives, and operators of Juan José Esparragoza Moreno, “El Azul”.

Under its Designated Foreign Drug Traffickers Act, the United States Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) signed nine companies, several of them in Jalisco, and 10 people linked to “El Azul”, six of them relatives.

In an incident that occurred hours after the death of the alleged Esparragoza financial operator, a motorcyclist who was also participating in Motorcycle Week was shot to death on Paseo Claussen, almost on the corner of Gutiérrez Nájera, a few meters from the Monument to the Fisherman.
