Mazatlán, Sinaloa.- In Mazatlán, the 20 thousand rooms for accommodation are full, either in hotels or vacation rentals that are available for this Holy Week.
For his part, the Secretary of Economic Development, Tourism and Fisheries of Mazatlán, Ricardo Velarde Cárdenas, indicated that there are at least 20,000 rooms to stay in, approximately 14,000 in hotels, and some 6,000 in apartments, to which are added the homes or hostels on the Airbnb platform or those who arrive with relatives.
The president of the Sinaloa Chamber of Commerce Federation, Miguel Hernández Fonseca, stressed that most tourists come to enjoy the beach and the various attractions of the port.
“For the holy days practically everything is sold and we will begin to see the strong part from Wednesday afternoon and the exodus of vacationers will be on Sunday,” he said.
He indicated that last weekend the port registered an occupation between 85-90%, this Monday it fell a little, but it will pick up from Wednesday.
Hernández Fonseca celebrated the increase in capacity by the authorities, 90% for closed places and 100% for open spaces, since thousands of tourists are expected.
“We are considering that the arrival of tourists to Mazatlan will be historic in this vacation period, as well as the economic spill,” he said.
The leader of the merchants pointed out that despite the fact that Mazatlan is green at the epidemiological traffic light, it is important to continue applying the sanitary protocols to avoid an uptick in infections.
