Luis Guillermo Benítez Torres, explained that Mazatlan is already growing and is demanding quality tourism, leaving aside the idea that it is considered a cheap tourist destination.

MAZATLAN. – For the mayor Luis Guillermo Benítez Torres, Mazatlán should no longer be considered a cheap destination and although he agrees that there are cheap rooms, these should not be the norm, because the quality of tourism that is sought is lost.

This, after different tour operators, denounced that Mazatlan is becoming an expensive destination, where rooms increase, during vacation times, up to 40 percent more than the rest of the year.

However, Benítez Torres explained that this is due to supply and demand, where hotels work in reverse, that is, the higher the demand for a room close to the vacation date, the higher their prices, while in low season they decrease so that they are “sold”.

«The people who come for a visit, come economically prepared, depending on the economic capacity of the families or individuals and they are going to verify if it is more expensive or not, what is true is that we do not agree that they send an image of a cheap tourist destination, because the tourism that we also want to attract does not come,” he said.

The mayor pointed out that when touring the tourist area he has noticed signs in hotels that offer rooms from 499 pesos, however, they are working to regulate such signs, not to change their rates, but to remove signs of this type.

He added that, currently, Mazatlan has a great advantage over other destinations that have become violent and unsafe such as Acapulco, Guerrero, and even Cancun, Quintana Roo, with assaults and firearm detonation events where they have been affected both domestic and foreign tourists.

They will work on the roads

The mayor pointed out that they are already preparing to work on improving roads in the port before the future catches up with them, however, he considered that this is a tiny problem compared to cities like Guadalajara, Monterrey, and Mexico City.

“It’s nothing compared to the big cities, Guadalajara, Monterrey, it’s crazy, in a kilometer it takes an hour to move, this doesn’t look like much, but we are preparing ourselves, we cannot let the future reach us and we are not prepared,” he commented.
