When and which Mexican state will change clocks to daylight saving time

Winter time comes to an end this Sunday, April 3. The recommendation is, before going to sleep on Saturday night, April 2, to advance the clock one hour.

There are some exceptions: the border strip, Quintana Roo, and Sonora will not have to make the change. The two states do not actually have summer time and in the case of the municipalities of the border strip the adjustment was made on March 13 last .

The discussion around daylight saving time

Strictly speaking, daylight saving time will come into effect this year at 2:00 AM on April 3 and will be in effect until Sunday, October 30, 2022.

Incidentally, daylight saving time has been harshly criticized and there are several initiatives in Mexico to completely eliminate it, the most recent being presented no more than a week ago. Among the arguments to eliminate it are the alleged damage to health, the alteration of sleep cycles, and the deterioration of school performance after the adjustment.

Among the arguments to keep it is that Mexico matches its schedules with commercial partners that also make the change, as well as energy savings. FIDE itself however has said that the savings ” are not what they used to be “. 25 years ago, 2% was saved with seasonal hours; now the figure is .5%.

For its part, the United States Senate has approved an initiative to eliminate daylight saving time. The initiative still needs to be approved by the House of Representatives.

In Mexico there was a proposal in 2020 to ” suspend ” the time change due to the pandemic but, as has happened with others, it was rejected.
