Mazatlan, Sinaloa. – On the eve of the commemoration of World Water Day, Conselva, Coasts and Communities, Sandra Guido Sánchez warned that Sinaloa is within a projection of droughts similar to those seen last year 2021, which is why they will reinforce the dissemination of the ‘Every Drop Counts’ campaign.
The head of this organization expanded that the entire planet is going through a serious situation in which climate change is combined with a crisis of lack of water and the State of Sinaloa is not exempt from suffering the consequences of an arid future and lack of vital liquid.
“The projections for Sinaloa are for drought, basically we have a very very hot area, that is, it is generating a lot of heat and it is perfectly defined in Arizona, which is where the highest temperatures radiating to the south are going to be recorded ( …) It is expected then that we will have a reduction in Sinaloa of more or less 10 percent of rains, “he said.
He argued that, just as the State was involved in an alarming drought last year that worsened to an extreme situation in 87 percent of the territory, if it is not attended to urgently, this could be the annual panorama in Sinaloa, seasoning it with a lower amount of annual rainfall.
“What we are experiencing in 2021 is going to be the new normality and if you remember we had 87 percent of the State with extreme drought, which was totally unprecedented; we are facing a future with very little water, that is why we join the United Nations as Conselva and also amplify the message”, argued Guido Sánchez.
That is why during the month of March they will carry out awareness-raising activities that will include the participation of companies and associations and the general public, in a campaign called “Every Drop Counts”, because according to Guido Sánchez “we need each one of us and competent institutions and authorities do what they have to do”.
“The issue of water is not going to be resolved just with forums, with words; we need each one of us and the competent institutions and authorities to do what they have to do to ensure the human right to water (…) At this time the current laws are not allowing this right to water to be fulfilled, that is why we are seeking redefine a new General Water Law and we also here in Sinaloa have a drinking water and sewage law that should also be restructured,” he concluded.
