On Hotel Day in Mexico, the Secretary of Tourism in the state recognized the value and importance of the sector.
Mazatlán, Sinaloa.- When celebrating Hotel Day in Mexico, the Secretary of Tourism of Sinaloa, Rosario Torres Noriega, recognized the value and importance of this important sector in the tourism industry.
He highlighted that during 2021 Sinaloa received around 4 million tourists, which represents an increase of 3.72% and 6.3% compared to the figures for 2019.
He expressed that the upward behavior in the tourist flow speaks of the strengthening of the sector and the growth in the lodging capacity in the entity.
Torres Noriega stated that Sinaloa is one of the states where the hotel industry is constantly growing since 2,457 hotel rooms are currently being built with investment from large consortiums.
The new hotel infrastructure will expand accommodation services in Sinaloa and will add to the 26,781 rooms available to receive national and international tourism in the entity.
The municipalities with the largest hotel supply are Mazatlán, with 249 hotels and 14,395 rooms; Culiacán, with 133 hotels and 5,951 rooms; and Los Mochis, with 64 hotels and 2,462 rooms.
According to the records of Nueva España, the hotel industry in Mexico began in 1525 with the opening of the San Juan de la Villa Rica inn, in Orizaba, Veracruz.
Almost 500 years after the opening of the first lodging establishment in Mexico and in America, today the hotel sector represents 28.3% of the Tourism Gross Domestic Product and generates 9% of employment in the sector since each hotel room means 1.5 direct jobs and three indirect jobs.
