For March and April, the Swoop airline will increase its number of seats, which will increase the influx at Easter

MAZATLAN.- The task of recovering seats on international flights and maintaining them is the constant work of tourism promoters, especially for a destination like Mazatlan, said Julio Birrueta.

The director of tourism promotion of the Association of Hotels and Tourism Companies of Mazatlan mentioned that at least between March and April an increase in seats of 35 percent will be achieved, coming from Canada.

“Swoop has already put them in as of March conditioned to the participation of Mazatlan in the promotion of the destination as always… it would grow 35 percent of its capacity, there are two flights from Edmonton but it is already materializing,” he declared.

In addition, a flight from Abbotsford, Canada was reactivated. Currently they only actively maintain flights with the United States, due to the same restrictions that Canada has had regarding the pandemic.

“Despite the fact that we were already able to place an Abbotsford flight, we are still recovering seats. We do have a great opportunity to recover internationally. It’s important because it’s going to set the precedent for next year,” he said.

However, Julio Birrueta explained that, if it starts with a single Canadian destination for the next season, it will be a bad year for negotiations, but high expectations remain, as many airlines are being flexible due to pandemic issues.

International flights to Mazatlan are with American Airlines from Dallas, Phoenix, and Los Angeles and Alaska Airlines from Los Angeles.
