The idea, said the Secretary of Tourism, María del Rosario Torres Noriega, is to make transparent what is collected from the 3 percent of the tax and support the rural areas, the Magical Towns, and the Sinaloas Stately tows.

MAZATLAN. – The Ministry of Tourism will seek a way to balance what is collected from the Lodging Tax in the 18 municipalities, in order to promote, in addition to Mazatlán, Culiacán, and Los Mochis (cities that collect more tax), the rural area, among Magic Towns and Stately Towns.

The secretary, María del Rosario Torres Noriega, mentioned that work will not be done as in previous state administrations, but in a coordinated manner, where all municipalities will be taken into account and, above all, in the most transparent manner.

“If the governor has asked us a lot what we are going to do and support what is the rural area, what are the Stately Towns, the Magical Towns, it does not mean that all the resource is going to go to a single destination, we are going to balance that part a lot and the decisions are going to be made transparently, through the advisory council”, he declared.

What is the Lodging Tax?

It is a charge that at the national level is between 2 and 3 percent per occupied room and is charged directly to the tourist at the time he pays each night of lodging.

It applies to services provided by hotels, motels, shelters, inns, inns, inns, camps, trailer parks, and other establishments that provide services of this nature.

Torres Noriega pointed out that, even, each one of the hotel associations has already presented its work plans in terms of promotion, which will be contemplated in these work meetings, prior to the execution of the resource of this tax.

“That resource that is applied in a transparent way, that we do it through an advisory council, where each of the hotel associations has already presented their work plans, we are including it,” he said.

The proceeds of this tax, commonly, were used for promotion in other states or in other countries, and, with this, it is possible to increase the visit of tourists in each vacation period or even throughout the year.
