Mazatlán, Sinaloa.- In addition to the January inflation, which every year tends to affect the economy in general, the Ómicron variant has played against sectors such as the municipal markets of Mazatlán.

Alejandro Bernal Reyes, president of the Union of Tenants of the José María Pino Suárez Municipal Market, revealed that at the beginning of the year, sales have dropped by 50 percent due to the fear of getting infected from some clients, however, he assured that the venue meets with all sanitary measures.

“If we get a number, well, sales did drop by 50 percent, if we get a number. Of course, on holidays like the previous December, which has just passed, because there is a little respite and to take out debts, pay off things that were already stuck, pending payments”

Bernal Reyes said that although the months of November and December, and especially the holidays, were an incentive for sales, now their profits have been impacted, perhaps because people are prioritizing their purchases so as not to go daily to the mercado.

He specified that the tenants of the José María Pino Suárez Municipal Market have established a commitment with the authorities, being constantly reviewed by the Municipal Government in terms of compliance with health protocols, to make the place a safe environment.

He indicated that, above all, the commitment of citizens is also required, because as long as self-care is not taken from home, the risk of becoming infected will always be latent.
