Mazatlan Sinaloa. – After keeping Mazatlán out of its itinerary for the last 11 years, the Royal Caribbean International company resumed its calls at this port, with its gigantic cruise ship Navigator of the Seas, which docked in the morning, and in a simple ceremony, Governor Rubén Rocha Moya warmly welcomed his crew and passengers to Sinaloa.
Accompanied by the Secretary of Tourism, María del Rosario Torres Noriega, and by the municipal president of Mazatlán, Luis Guillermo Benítez Torres, the state president received the captain of the Navigator of the Seas, James Nazar, who arrived at the API fiscal dock. at 7:30 in the morning with 1,875 passengers and a crew of 1,1172 people, from Cabo San Lucas and with Puerto Vallarta as the next destination.
Rocha Moya said that his government is very encouraged by the return of this cruise ship company and at the same time commits them to increase the offer of tourist attractions in Mazatlan, so that in the near future the company includes overnight nights in the port, as currently, The cruise ship arrives in the morning and after the passengers descend to tour the city, it resumes its trip in the afternoon, after a stay of almost 12 hours in Mazatlán.
The state president stressed that tourism is essential for Sinaloa and in particular for Mazatlán, and therefore, with the support of the President of the Republic, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, for next year the construction of its own terminal for the cruise ships, as these gigantic vessels currently dock at the API fiscal dock, between the cargo containers.
“What we want is that the cruise ships do not stop coming, and we want to generate complimentary visits for cruise passengers so that they can stay one night here,” said the governor.
In addition to improving tourist attractions, he specified that work is being done to improve security, so that visitors leave with the idea of returning since tourism is one of the main detonators of the economy.
As a gesture of friendship and good intentions in this return of the shipping company, the Vice President for Latin America and the Caribbean of Royal Caribbean International, Alberto Muñoz, exchanged with the Governor Rubén Rocha Moya and the Mayor of Mazatlán, Luis Guillermo Benítez Torres, commemorative plaques, and those delivered by the Sinaloan authorities will be permanently exhibited in a Navigator of the Seas pavilion.
Also present at this welcome was the general director of the API, ADMIRAL Mariel Aquileo Ancona Infanzon; the commander of the Fourth Naval Zone, Vice Admiral Enrique Flores Morado; and the administrator of the Mazatlán Customs, Admiral Héctor Mucharraz Brambila.
