Mazatlán, Sinaloa.- The arrival of expats from the United States and Canada to Mazatlán has contributed to increasing local consumption in restaurants, bars, shops, transportation, among others.
Waiters from various establishments in the Golden Zone stated that its economy began to improve a few weeks ago with the arrival of foreigners who reside in the port, especially those with whom they have established a good relationship due to the treatment they have been given over the years. .
“It is already flowing, there is a little more flow, more than normal, especially in the afternoons, it helps us increase sales and profit through tips,” said José, a restaurant employee.
For his part, the president of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce in Sinaloa, Miguel Hernández Fonseca, commented that this tourism that resides for several months in Sinaloa attracts benefits to the local economy.
“There is a significant amount in Sinaloa and specifically in Mazatlán of around 10 to 12 thousand resident tourists who make Mazatlán their second home and are already arriving for the winter season, which is very cold there in their countries of origin”.
He commented that foreign residents stay in hotels or apartments, in areas such as the Historic Center, the Golden Zone, or Cerritos, with an average stay of 3 or 4 months, “some come only for a month to experience when it comes to their first once in Mazatlán ”.
Hernández Fonseca added that the increase in international flights has helped the arrival of this segment of tourism because it is important to strengthen air connectivity.
He also highlighted that in 2020 and 2019 Mazatlán was one of the most visited destinations in the country, and one of the most important factors is the tourist diversity that it offers beaches, gastronomy, culture, among other attractions.
