MAZATLÁN.- In recent days Mazatlán has made headlines with the announcement of the Urban Improvement Program, we have seen and heard the authorities say how important it is that our port is the first municipality in Sinaloa to be a creditor of this benefit.
Yes, by its name we can deduce that it is for a good, but do you know exactly what it is and for what purpose it was created? Well, the Urban Improvement Program (PMU) was created in 2019 in order to improve the living conditions of low-income communities and highly marginalized neighborhoods, rehabilitating their public spaces, green areas, and homes through comprehensive interventions that improve conditions. of habitability both inside the house and in the urban environment.
What does it consist of?
According to Tonatiuh Guerra Martínez, director of Welfare and Social Development of Mazatlán, this program is made up of three aspects:
1. Comprehensive neighborhood improvement, consisting of the rehabilitation, improvement of public spaces, and development of equipment; replacement, repair, and implementation of urban infrastructure.
2. Housing in the urban area; that is, expansion, improvement, or replacement of housing for the population in vulnerable situations.
3. Regularization and legal certainty of lots for residential use, urban facilities, and/or public spaces.
According to information from the Government of Mexico page, in its first year of implementation (2019) the PMU had the goal of completing 348 comprehensive neighborhood improvement works; 18 thousand 387 actions on housing that are carried out through the National Housing Commission (Conavi) and 6 thousand 797 actions to grant legal certainty, in coordination with the National Institute of Sustainable Land (INSUS), which were specified during 2020.
Among the works carried out, the following stand out: 18 community development centers, 10 cultural-recreational centers, three libraries, 20 sports units-modules, six stadiums-baseball fields, nine schools, seven health centers, four markets, 68 rehabilitations, 144 streets, 55 public spaces, and four mobility and connectivity projects.
What cities have participated?
