Hurricane Pamela damages beach restaurants of Mazatlán, restaurateurs ask for help

The Union of Palaperos asks for government support to get up and start their businesses

Mazatlán, Sinaloa.- The intensity of the wind and the strong waves registered as part of the effects of hurricane “Pamela” as it passed through Mazatlán generated great material losses to the restaurants in the beach area.

Much of the infrastructure of the palapas on Avenida Del Mar was lost, like the ceilings, bars and wooden floors were totally destroyed.

The force of the waves of the sea broke the floors of the kitchens and dining areas and many were unable to work in the coming days.

Of the total of 25 restaurants that were left with material losses, only 5 of them will be able to operate, under certain restrictions, so as not to cause accidents and discomfort to both diners and workers.

100 families depend on the affected palapas, where cooks, waiters, kitchen assistants, cashiers, and cleaning staff work.

The Union of Palaperos asks for government support to get up and start their businesses again since this activity depends on dozens of Mazatlan families.

” Repairing a palapa has a cost of approximately 250 thousand pesos, so government support is necessary to continue working, ” said a member of the Union who lost a large part of his business.
