Sinaloa achieves the designation of origin Mezcal
The Mexican Institute of Industrial Property authorized the appellation of origin for the municipalities of Mazatlán, Rosario, Concordia and San Ignacio
Mazatlán, Sinaloa.- After several years of management, Sinaloa achieves the Mezcal denomination of origin , announced the Secretary of Economy of Sinaloa, Javier Lizárraga Mercado.
He highlighted with the designation of origin Mezcal, the sowing of agave, the production of mezcal, the acceptance of the consuming public, the exports of Mezcal and the creation of jobs mainly in localities of the Sierra de Sinaloa, and the attraction of national investments and foreign.
“In the morning edition of the Official Gazette of the Federation this Tuesday, the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property authorized the expansion of the Designation of Origin Mezcal for the municipalities of Mazatlán, Rosario, Concordia, and San Ignacio, at the request of the Governor of Sinaloa Quirino Ordaz Coppel joined the IMPI on March 14, 2018, ”he said.
Lizárraga Mercado recognized Governor Quirino Ordaz Coppel for the support and backing at all times to achieve the Mezcal designation of origin for Sinaloa, as well as the areas of the Undersecretariat of Economic Development and the Sector Development Directorate.
The Mexican Institute of Industrial Property through its staff reviewed and verified the historical background, bibliography, and official state and municipal information, reviewed agave plantings, laboratories, and greenhouses, held meetings with historians and with inhabitants of the localities where vinatas existed They also visited remains of vinatas, as well as the “Los Osuna” plant that has remained in production, among other actions carried out.
With the aforementioned, it was verified that in Sinaloa all the conditions exist to extend the use of the Designation of Origin Mezcal, to these four municipalities of Sinaloa.
