Luis Guillermo Benítez Torres, mayor of Mazatlán, Sinaloa, explained that in January 2022 the construction of the new cruise terminal will begin, as part of the transformation of this port to improve the attention of tourists.
Private investment in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, which amounts to 40,000 million pesos, will continue to grow, to place it as an international tourist destination, and is already getting ready for the construction of the new cruise terminal for three ships, for the arrival of 300 cruises per season starting in 2022.
Luis Guillermo Benítez Torres, Mayor of Mazatlán, explained that as part of the transformation carried out to the Port and the City to receive a greater number of tourists, the construction of the cruise terminal will begin in January 2022, so that the work concludes in mid-2023, in order to cover the demand.
“This week (of October) we are going to receive two (cruises), for a total of 100 this season (autumn-winter), but the bet is to recover 300 each season; and next year the construction of a new terminal begins that will allow the arrival of three cruise ships at the same time, “the official told El Economista.
Interviewed at the ITM 2021 event, held by the Hannover Messe, the mayor of Mazatlán commented that the work located at the foot of the Lighthouse in the Port is an investment between the federal, state, and local governments.
It was also announced that there will be the Plaza de la Banda, as in Mexico City is the Plaza del Mariachi, since the arrival of more tourists is expected.
The intention is to improve the infrastructure for the attention of tourists, and the best thing is that they spend the night in Mazatlán, because the tourist demand is growing in the United States, “we receive them and we want to give visitors, the transformation that Mazatlán has”, he bounded.
Benítez Torres said that in 2020, Mazatlán only received 30 cruises due to the closure of activities in the face of Covid-19, while none arrived in the first half of this year, and in September and October there are 10 ships, “we trust that the next year there will be 300 cruises ”.
From an average of 2,000 crew members on a boat, 40% of these descend to tour the city and the magical towns of Mazatlán, which leaves an economic spill.
Mazatlán has been the municipality that has attracted the most private investment in the state during Governor Quirino Ordaz Coppel’s administration, amounting to 110,000 million pesos, of which 40,000 million have been concentrated in the tourist area.
