The “Amigos de Los Animales” shelter must present the initiative to the City Council or Planning, to see if it is viable

Mazatlan, Sinaloa.- The Directorate of Municipal Ecology supports the project haven ” Amigo de Los Animales” to make a ” Dogs Park ” in the central reservation Avenue Bicentenario, near where this civil association is located.

Miriam Isaraí Rodríguez Paniagua said that it is a “Dogs Park” project that they want to do on the median, so it will be reviewed to see if the Planning Department allows it and what permits they will require to carry it out.

He explained that they have to do a procedure directly with the City Council, since this civil association has approached through Ecology but does not have the resources to provide support, so they will have to do the study and request and present it to the Presidency or in the Planning Directorate to see if it is possible to carry it out.

“What they want is to make a Dogs Park, that means a park where the dogs can be loose, as they have to take them out because they have a reduced space where the shelter is located, it is very stressful for the animals to be there all the time Locked up, then, part of the mistreatment is keeping them locked up all the time, so what they do to lower their temperament is take them out for a walk ”, explained the municipal official.

Rodríguez Paniagua said that they take the dogs out for a walk on the central median, which is a road heavily traveled by vehicles, which puts the animals at risk, so they are proposing that part of the median be closed so that the puppies have no accident.

He added that the Ecology department supports this project.

Amigos de los Animales, Mazatlán Humane Society, A.C.

Started more than 20 years ago, Amigos de los Animales is the only dedicated animal shelter in Mazatlán – a city of more than 400,000 people. We are dedicated to finding safe permanent homes for the abandoned, stray and abused animals in our city. We are also focused on ending the pet overpopulation crisis through our spay/neuter programs.

Our goal is “A Mazatlán free of stray dogs and cats.”

Amigos de los Animales is a non-profit, no-kill shelter. Our team of staff members and volunteers is dedicated to the following goals:

  1. rescuing lost and abandoned street dogs and cats in Mazatlán;
  2. providing food, shelter and medical care to animals in need;
  3. spaying and neutering cats and dogs to end the suffering and abuse caused by overpopulation and to reduce the number of unwanted animals; and
  4. finding loving, forever-homes for the adoption of healthy animals back into our community.

Our shelter receives no government or private foundation funding. The organization operates solely from individual donations, fundraising events and adoption fees. We rely on the support of people from our community to volunteer to walk dogs at the shelter or to work at the bazaar (thrift store), to donate items that can be sold at our bazaar, to donate food and supplies, to help with our spay/neuter and fostering programs and our fundraisers.

Visit the shelter to meet our animals, our staff, and volunteers. Find out how you can volunteer, donate, foster or help in some other way.
