Mazatlan seeks to raise awareness and reduce teenage pregnancies

Mazatlán, Sinaloa.- The Government of Mazatlán in coordination with the Municipal Instituto de la Mujer, carried out the Comprehensive Sexuality Education Day, on the esplanade of the Plazuela República, with which it is intended to create awareness to seek to reduce adolescent pregnancies and violence against girls.

María del Carmen Ramírez Morales, director of Immujer, commented that the day is focused on young people and adolescents from the port, and aims to reinforce the sexual education they have received at home and in educational institutions, always seeking their physical and emotional well-being.

He indicated that various institutions such as the Specialized Unit for the Prevention of Family and Gender Violence (Uniprevif), the Mazatlán DIF System, as well as the Municipal Hospital “Margarita Maza de Juárez”, the Municipal Institute of Youth and the Hospital General “Martiniano Carvajal”, as well as the Executive Secretariat of the State Public Security System through the State Center Against Violence and Citizen Participation and the Preventive Programs through the School Vigilance Committees and the Citizen Vigilance Committees.

When welcoming the participants, Ramírez Morales explained that teenage pregnancy and sexual violence are a problem that must be addressed from multiple perspectives and with various institutional, intergovernmental and interdisciplinary actions.

” The Sinaloense Institute of Women has coordinated with the Municipal Institute of Women to carry out this day of comprehensive education on sexuality and pregnancy prevention, and for this, talks and conferences will be given for adolescents and parents “, commented.

He said that the National Institute of Women created the Women’s Welfare and Advancement Fund (FOBAM), which seeks to promote projects and various strategies with gender perspectives, since it wants and intends to eradicate violence against girls, eradicate infant pregnancy, and the reduction of these pregnancies in adolescents through these preventive programs.

Ramírez Morales added that a training course on the subject is being given to the conference at the institute’s facilities.
