(September 11, 2021).- The Ministry of Foreign Relations (SRE) reported that President Andrés Manuel López Obrador proposed the governor of Sinaloa, Quirino Ordaz Coppel, as Mexico’s ambassador to Spain.
“The proposal will be officially presented to the Government of Spain to request approval in accordance with international diplomatic norms and, subsequently, it will be sent to the Senate of the Republic for analysis and opinion in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution and applicable laws,” explained the dependence headed by Marcelo Ebrard.

Ordaz Coppel will replace, if he obtains the approval of Madrid and the approval of the Senate, Ambassador María Carmen Oñate Muñoz, who, according to the Foreign Ministry, had communicated for months her decision to withdraw from her.
The news caused an impact because Quirino, who will conclude his work as governor of Sinaloa on October 31, is an active member of the PRI and was a federal deputy for the Green Party.
It also happens two weeks after the cultural attaché in Spain, Jorge F. Hernández, was fired for unworthy behavior. Hernández was replaced by Brenda Lozano, whose appointment also caused controversy.
