MEXICO IS ONLY 4.9% BELOW ITS PRE-PANDEMIC LEVELS

Mexico currently has the best recovery of its airline industry in percentage terms, only behind Russia and Greece, according to data from the British consulting firm OAG.

In its analysis of the supply of airlines in the 20 main air markets worldwide, OAG pointed out that Mexico is, this week, only 4.9% below its pre-pandemic levels, while Russia has a growth of 0.9% and Greece 0.1%.

Previously, other nations such as China had also already recovered their pre-pandemic levels, however, the increase in covid-19 cases led to the imposition of new travel restrictions, which caused airlines to adjust their available offer, once again falling below what they operated in 2019.

At this time, the United States is at 15.4% of its pre-pandemic levels, China has a drop of 32.8% and India 27%; Despite these declines, these three countries have the three largest air markets in the world.

The Top 10 is completed by Russia (0.9% growth), Spain (-25.4%), Turkey (-12.2%), Japan (-50.5%), Italy (25.1%) Mexico (-4.9%) and the United Kingdom (- 55.7%).

In Latin America, Brazil is at 48.4% of its prepandemic levels and Colombia at 19.7%.
