In the framework of the third wave of COVID-19 in Mexico, the number of accumulated cases increased to 3,101,266, after the Ministry of Health ( SSa ) reported 9,295 new infections in the country Sunday.
Regarding the number of deaths due to the viral disease, the agency registered 213 deaths in the last 24 hours, so the total number rose to 248,380 deaths since the pandemic reached the national territory.
According to the Daily Technical Report, the epidemiological week opened with a 2% decrease in the number of estimated cases compared to the previous week, and since the start of the health emergency, 2,436,810 people overcame the disease.
Likewise, the health agency reported that in the epidemiological week under analysis, 147,704 people presented signs and symptoms of COVID-19 in the last 14 days, so they are considered active cases and if health measures are not maintained, they could potentially contribute to transmission of the virus; these represent 4.5% of the total epidemic in the country.
In this sense, according to the document, Mexico City, the State of Mexico, Nuevo León, Jalisco, Tabasco, Veracruz, San Luis Potosí, Puebla, Guanajuato, Tamaulipas, Michoacán, Quintana Roo, Guerrero, Nayarit and Colima , are the entities with the highest number of active cases (more than 3,000 cases).
They are followed by entities with more than 1,000 infections of this type and are: Hidalgo, Sonora, Querétaro, Oaxaca, Coahuila, Yucatán, Durango, Sinaloa, Zacatecas Baja California Sur, Campeche, Chiapas, Morelos, Tlaxcala and Baja California.
Regarding hospital availability, the occupation of general beds is 54%, while that of beds with mechanical respirators is 47%.
With these records, Mexico is the fourth country in the world with the most deaths from COVID-19, behind the United States, Brazil and India, and is sixteenth in the number of confirmed infections, according to the Johns Hopkins University count.

This is reflected in the colors of the epidemiological traffic light that the SSa defined until August 22.
In the color ” red ” (maximum risk of contagion) there are already eight states: Sinaloa, Mexico City, Nuevo León, Jalisco, Guerrero, Colima, Nayarit and as of this Monday, San Luis Potosí is integrated . It is worth mentioning that according to the Government of Mexico City, the capital of the country remains in orange and not in red as established by the SSA. On the contrary, in the color “ green ” (low risk) only one entity is kept: Chiapas .
In ” orange ” (high risk), 15 entities: Sonora, Durango, Baja California Sur, Zacatecas, San Luis Potosí, Tamaulipas, Michoacán, Querétaro, Hidalgo, Veracruz, State of Mexico, Puebla, Tlaxcala, Oaxaca and Quintana Roo.
While in ” yellow ” or moderate risk, there are nine states: Baja California, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Guanajuato, Aguascalientes, Morelos, Campeche, Tabasco and Yucatán.
Advancement of vaccination against COVID-19
The Ministry of Health reported that this August 14, at 9:00 p.m., 638,029 vaccines were applied to reach 77,225,451 doses supplied since December 24.
This means that in Mexico, 61% of people over 18 years of age have at least one dose, that is, 54,305,039 people, of which 29,239,686, representing 54%, have a complete scheme; and 46%, that is, 25,065,353, have a half vaccination schedule.
By state, those that report the highest coverage of the vaccinated population are Mexico City, Quintana Roo, Sinaloa, Baja California, Zacatecas, Baja California Sur, Chihuahua, Aguascalientes, Yucatán and Sonora.
It is worth mentioning that to this day, 92,261,035 doses have arrived in the national territory since December 23, from the pharmaceutical companies Pfizer BioNTech, AstraZenca, Sinovac, Sputnik V, National Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology Research Gamaleya, Cansino Biologics and Johnson and Johnson.
