It’s official, people of the same sex can now marry in Sinaloa

With the publication of the reform, as of July 1, the law comes into force and any same-sex couple may legally marry in the state of Sinaloa.

Culiacán, Sinaloa (July 3, 2021).- The State Government has already published the reform to the Family Code on equal marriage and common-law marriage.

It was on Wednesday, June 30, in its edition number 078, volume CXII, when Governor Quirino Ordaz Coppel, ordered to publish this modification in the Official State Gazette, which was approved by the Lower Chamber of Congress so that people of the same sex can get married, without need to promote an injunction before the judicial authorities.

In this way, as of Wednesday, June 30, the law comes into force, and any same-sex couple may legally marry in Sinaloa before the Civil Registry.

This reform approved by the 63rd legislature includes the modification of articles 40 and 165 of the Family Code of the State of Sinaloa.

The Sinaloa Diversity Committee congratulated the governor, Quirino Ordaz for having approved this change to the law that was published in the official media, and that promotes inclusion and respect to human rights in the state.
