Mazatlán, Sinaloa.- A Congress and Convention Office is very important for a destination like Mazatlán, as this would allow more events to reach this destination, said the general director of the Convention Center, José Alberto Ureña Trujillo.
He pointed out that tourists to congresses and conventions not only contribute a great economic benefit and collaborate in the generation of jobs, but also contribute knowledge and social works to this tourist destination.
He warned that as long as they do not agree and that office is not organized, the possibility of bringing a higher-level event will continue to pass.
“They do not want to take their event to a disorganized destination, fought, with problems of insecurity, poorly connected hotels and inappropriate venues” .
Ureña Trujillo stressed that there are event organizers looking for destinations that have this office, to be able to choose the venue for their activities.
He added that according to the latest methodological study of the relevance of this segment in Mexico carried out in 2011, there were 24 million rooms only in congresses and conventions, with an average stay of 2.5 nights more than national tourism and expenditure of 18 billion dollars, which is 18% of what tourism represents in the country.
“The per capita spending 785 dollars against 5 thousand pesos of the national tourist, all tourists are welcome, but this is quality tourism that can leave the Mazatlan with a greater possibility of income, jobs,” he said.
The general director of the Mazatlán Convention Center pointed out that meeting tourism represents 1.4% of the national GDP.
“That size is the ‘cake’ that we could have access to because the destination has everything to do it, connectivity, infrastructure, people, gastronomy, but we cannot agree,” he lamented.
