MERIDA Villas del Sol Signature Apartments is a project that literally sells “pure smoke”

1933

Villas del Sol City Condos, now called Villas del Sol Signature Apartments, is a project that literally sells “pure smoke”.

Can you imagine acquiring a property of around 6 million pesos, thinking that you found the ideal place, the perfect city, unique tranquility and security and a life without conflicts, because that is exactly what this housing complex offers, which could seem a wonderful opportunity, but as a buyer, do you know what’s behind it all?

First of all, you will find that the “best city council in the country” gave permits beyond the legal construction framework allowed in this urban area. The Villas del Sol subdivision has been a low-density single-family neighborhood since its foundation, in which buildings of this type are not allowed, so this departmental complex has a construction license that clearly violates local laws and regulations.

Then comes the social impact, the settlers in the area are clearly dissatisfied and dissatisfied, so the dispute over the legality of the construction license granted is already in the corresponding legal instances.

A third point is the quality and development of life, as we pointed out previously, Villas del Sol is designed for a certain number of buildings and inhabitants, so the overpopulation (density) of the area will generate serious conflicts in traffic, mobility, saturation in water services, electricity, and of course, the impact on the environment.

Finally, one of the most important topics is the project itself, the parking lot is underground so it floods every time it rains for a long time in the city and said parking could barely cover the capacity of the tenants of the housing complex, no having enough areas for visitors or eventual vehicles of workers who come to provide maintenance services.

Undoubtedly, a manipulated reality, speaking of a project with all the comforts, full of comfort and elegance, but not all its “small/serious drawbacks”, and the overcrowding due to excess density when projecting 72 SIGNATURE APARTMENTS (minimum 290 or 300 people), where 7 or 8 used to live. In all Villas del Sol, today there are approx. 850 people, that is, in this development of great luxury and comfort, 35% of the total current population of this neighborhood will be crowded, classified as LOW DENSITY.

Heritage is the most important thing, and what good would it be to acquire a dream, knowing that sooner rather than later, it will become a real nightmare, an ideal place for the spread of all kinds of situations, such as the COVID-19 pandemic that we suffer today.

WHO IS OUR CITY COUNCIL ACCOUNTABLE TO?

The Mérida administration is supposed to serve the people. Mayor Renán Barrera promised, at the time of taking office, to listen to the will of the people of Merida and to work for their good. But it seems that a year after being in power his political objective has changed.

At least this is demonstrated by his silence regarding the urban problem that the construction of City Condos Villas del Sol is generating. The residents of the area, disgusted by a real estate development that clearly violates current construction regulations, have come on multiple occasions to the authority, to resolve the case. But the only thing they have obtained as a response from their leaders is silence and rejection.

With their actions, they not only show the little esteem they have for the most fundamental rights of their citizens, but they also allow the construction of works that clearly violate lawsregulations and human rights. This sets a very dangerous precedent for the people of Merida, as it leaves them defenseless against voracious economic interests, without an authority that feels the obligation to protect and render them accountable.

This situation forces all Meridians to rethink our relationship with local authorities. Will we allow in the city a government subject to economic interests? Is the enrichment of the political class more important than the well-being of the citizens they are supposed to serve? Really, who is our government accountable to?

What the City Condos Villas del Sol makes clear is that the interests of the government are not in their citizens, but elsewhere. As demonstrated by the illegal granting of a permit that exceeds the allowed housing density and endangers the basic services of the area, the authority is willing to put aside its governed and ignore the official laws and the rules of coexistence for reasons of its own benefit.

We insist that this is a clear example of a violation of the human rights of citizens, directly affecting our heritage, and as a result, we have to suffer the consequences of the excessive and poorly planned growth of our city, from which they are taking away its identity, tranquility, and harmony, which has prospered over the years.

That is why the movement to reject City Condos is not just a real estate protest, it is a demonstration against a government subjected to economic interests that are alien to the good of society. The residents of Villas del Sol make a call for all Meridians to unite and not allow the abuses of power to continue. That the opposition to this construction becomes an example of how far citizens will go to force the government to defend their most fundamental rights.
