He recalled that the municipality had established the obligation to use the mask and there were even penalties or jail hours, but “I think it has not been followed up; You have to start with the example and from the public servants, the police officers, use it, you have to insist in all areas, from the inhabitants to the visitors, it is a serious problem ”.
The government must make an effort, he said, as well as citizens and businessmen; the latter must be congruent and understand that human lives and the image of the destination are at risk worldwide: “visitors and locals are risking public health, not only their own but also their collective”.
The hoteliers had launched the Wear to Care campaign together with the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council (CPTQ), but “the result is visible, the reality is that in Tulum the mask is not being used and we do want to see a much more authority energetic making the places comply with the epidemiological traffic light ”.
