Germán Larrea’s companies win tender for Section 5 South of the Maya Train

Germán Feliciano Larrea Mota Velasco was at some point the third richest man in Mexico and number 79 in the ranking of Forbes magazine, with a fortune of 13.3 billion US dollars.

And on the year 2021, Germán Larrea’s companies have won the tender for Section 5 South of the Mayan Train.

The section corresponds to the stretch between Playa del Carmen and Tulum. The consortium’s offer was for 17 thousand 815 million pesos.

Two construction companies of the mining entrepreneur Germán Larrea won the tender for the construction of Section 5 South of the Mayan Train, which corresponds to the route from Playa del Carmen to the Tulum Bypass.

It is Mexico Proyectos y Desarrollos S.A. de C.V., Grupo México’s main infrastructure subsidiary, and México Compañía Constructora S.A. de C.V.

Both companies participated in a consortium with the Spanish Acciona Construcción S.A. and its Mexican subsidiary Acciona Infraestructuras México S.A. de C.V.

The winning consortium was led by companies from Larrea, one of the richest Mexicans in the world. According to the Forbes list, Germán Larrea is the second richest man in Mexico, with a fortune of 13 thousand 300 million dollars in 2019.

The National Fund for the Promotion of Tourism (Fonatur), which coordinates the construction of the train, reported that the aforementioned consortium presented an economic proposal for an amount of approximately 17.8 billion pesos, an offer with which it beat eight other participating consortiums.
