Mazatlan sterilize and vaccinate almost 5,000 cats and dogs

Veterinary unit offers free service in 19 colonies and communities of Mazatlán

Mazatlán, Sinaloa.- Despite the social confinement and those non-essential activities remained closed for four months due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Sterilization Campaign in Dogs and Cats of the veterinary unit of the Municipal Medical Services, attended this year to a total of 4,845 animals in 19 colonies in Mazatlán.

Through this program, rabies and tick vaccines, sterilizations and deworming were given free of charge.

Among the colonies visited this year are the Montuosa, Freedom of Expression, Francisco I. Madero, Valles del Ejido, Salvador Allende, Francisco Villa, Urías, Flores Magón, Economic Houses, Jaripillo, Infonavit Alarcón, Ejido Rincón de Urías, Arboledas Invies , Santa Teresa, San Joaquín, San Francisco and Villa Florida.

The communities of El Roble and Isla de la Piedra were also served.

This campaign to sterilize animals was suspended during the strongest months of the coronavirus pandemic and was reactivated in September, to go to different parts of the city, mainly in the poor neighborhoods and communities of the Mazatlán municipality.

This service seeks to promote the good health of animals and reduce the population living on the streets and give them a better quality of life.

Among the goals is to encourage pet owners to sterilize their animals, and with this campaign to avoid overpopulation of unwanted and homeless dogs and cats.

The goal in the 2018-2021 Municipal Development Plan is to apply 3,680 rabies vaccines, 3,680 anti-tick vaccines, 3,680 deworming, and carry out 1,600 sterilizations per year.
