253 migrants from Oaxaca died by covid-19 in the US.

Most of the migrants have died in New York, Los Angeles, and Dallas, as well as New Jersey and Chicago.

In the United States, 253 people from Oaxaca have died in the last 10 months, informed the Coordinadora del Migrante Oaxaqueño (Ceamo) Aida Ruiz García, who added that most of the deaths were reported in cities such as New York, Los Angeles, and Dallas, plus New Jersey, Chicago, Houston, Seattle, North Carolina, Florida, Tennessee, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, and Wisconsin.

In an interview, she said that according to official figures provided by the Ministry of Foreign Relations (SRE), 3,996 Mexicans have died in the United States, most of them migrants from the states of Puebla, Guerrero, and Oaxaca. “Until now, Oaxaca ranks third in the number of deaths of migrants infected by COVID-19 in various cities in North America, just below Guerrero and Puebla,” she said.

She explained that, due to Governor Alejandro Murat’s efforts, 420 mortuary remains of victims have been repatriated by air, of which 81 have been hermetic urns for being victims of covid-19.

Ruiz García said that this last figure, 72 are men and 9 have been women, who were transferred to their communities of origin in the Mixtec area, the Central Valley, and the Sierra Sur. Regarding the rest of the repatriated bodies, she explained that some victims died of various diseases, pathological deaths, others of a violent type, and some died in their attempt to cross the border and their bodies were found by the immigration patrol in the Arizona desert.
