The state of Oaxaca returned to orange within the epidemiological risk light established by the federal authority.

During the weekend, in which it was announced that Oaxaca returns to the orange light of the covid-19 pandemic, the historic center, tourist walkway, and the Alameda de León were occupied by thousands of tourists and Oaxacans.

They took advantage of the beginning of the Christmas holidays and the end of the year to go out with the family in Oaxaca de Juárez, the municipality with the most positive cases of coronavirus so far in the pandemic: 18,440 positive cases and 1,442 confirmed deaths in the last report from the Oaxaca Health Services.

"It is worrying for everyone, but unfortunately, we do not see it from that side, we do what we want and we do not obey, "said Laura, a resident of the city of Oaxaca.

Hundreds of street stalls that brought together dozens of walkers were also installed without sanitary controls, and even shows by urban artists and comedians were presented in the Alameda de León and Plaza Labastida, while dozens of children played in the atrium of the Cathedral rising balloons.

Therefore, with a repeated call to act responsibly and implement health measures and recommendations to support the work of health personnel who are on the first line of care for citizens against covid-19, the Oaxaca de Juárez City Council paid tribute to the people who died from the coronavirus pandemic with a minute of silence and, in addition, a minute of applause in recognition of doctors, nurses and health personnel who are facing the pandemic in the municipality and in the country.

Oswaldo García Jarquín, mayor of Oaxaca de Juárez, made a new call to the population to get away from the crowds, avoid crowds or attending celebrations, taking “to the point of exaggeration” the practice of sanitary measures such as the mandatory use of face masks, application of antibacterial gel and the practice of healthy distance, in addition to being attentive to information and bulletins issued by the health authorities.

More is missing from the government, that part of the mandatory use of face masks because there are people who do not use them, ”said Lizbeth, a national tourist.
