Eight men executed in Zacatecas and San Luis Potosí as a result of cartels’ war

Zacatecas, Zacatecas. This Friday, December 18th, eight men were executed in the limits of the states of Zacatecas and San Luis Potosí, allegedly linked to the war between the Sinaloa Cartel (CDS) against the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG). Until today, in three days of assassinations and armed confrontations, there are 42 people killed.

On federal highway number 49, which connects both entities, at kilometer 123 plus 700, there are border signs for the municipalities of Pánfilo Natera, Zacatecas, and Salinas, San Luis Potosí. There, eight men were shot, bound hands and feet, and blindfolded. Along with their bodies, a message from organized crime was also left.

On Thursday, 21 people were killed with a firearm, among them a municipal police officer from Fresnillo, while two soldiers were seriously injured, as well as a state policeman, in different attacks that occurred in Zacatecan territory, in a day of clashes between police officers. and the military, against members of organized crime, and alleged reckoning.

Around 7:45 p.m. on Thursday, in the Chupaderos community, Villa de Cos municipality – some 70 kilometers northeast of the state capital – where, according to the information provided by the authorities, an armed group attacked members of the Mixed Operations Base, made up of police and military, when they were passing through that town.

For several minutes, criminals and law enforcement officers confronted each other with large caliber weapons and grenades, as reported by residents of that town to the 911 emergency system, and with messages on social networks. After approximately half an hour of fighting, and more than three thousand cartridges of firearms percussed, 10 alleged members of organized crime were killed in the place.

In addition, eight alleged criminals were arrested in the area of ​​the confrontation. On the other hand, two members of the Mexican army were seriously injured, as well as a member of the State Preventive Police —who, it transpired, lost an eye due to a wound—; these were taken by ambulances to a hospital.

Meanwhile, the bulk of the police and military secured three vehicles – two of them with armor – in which the criminals were traveling. One of the automobiles also had a 50-millimeter Barret rifle “mounted” on the top. They also seized 20 long weapons carried by the criminals, as well as multiple magazines and useful cartridges.

On the other hand, around 8:30 p.m., another confrontation took place, in the El Salitrillo community, in the Jerez municipality, between two small groups of armed civilians belonging to antagonistic cartels. After a few minutes of fighting, it was reported that two unidentified civilians were killed at the site.
