To supervise the progress of Section 2 of the Mayan Train, the President of the Republic, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, will carry out a work tour this weekend, where on Saturday he will visit the municipality of Dzitbalché and Calkiní.

According to his preliminary agenda from Friday 18 to Sunday 20 December, the president will give a report on Friday about the victims of the floods in Tabasco, this from the city of Villahermosa; and hours later he will supervise Section 1 of the Mayan Train in Palenque, Chiapas.

For Saturday, President López Obrador will continue with his working tour in the states of Campeche and Yucatán. At 10:30 a.m. he is scheduled to supervise Section 2 of the Mayan Train in Dzitbalché and Calkiní, and at noon he will do the same at the beginning of Section 3 in Halachado, Yucatán, and at 4:30 p.m. he will move to Tinum, Yucatán, to supervise Section 4 of his mega-project.

On Sunday, December 20, the President of Mexico will visit the state of Quintana Roo, where at 10:30 in the morning he will lead a signing of the agreement of the Regional Program of the territorial ordering of the Mayan Train, in the municipality of Tulum.

With this, it will be the tenth time that the president visits Campeche since he became president, the last time was on October 10, when he supervised the work of the Mayan Train in the community of Adolfo Ruiz Cortines.

On the other hand, the inactivity of the Ferrocarril del Istmo de Tehuantepec (FIT) due to the construction of the Mayan Train caused the company to layoff workers. Only in section 32 of the National Union of Railroad Workers of the Mexican Republic (SNTFRM), 106 workers are corresponding to the states of Chiapas, Yucatán, Quintana Roo, and Campeche, which have already begun to receive their final payments.

The secretary-general or the section 32 of the union, Manuel Castillo Estrella, explained that the FIT legal officer came to present the amounts that correspond to each of the union members, “first it was for the Mayan Train, but now the government ordered that we liquidated the workers under the provisions of the law ”, he specified.

Alberto Ortiz, FIT legal officer, arrived in Campeche a few days ago to tell the workers how much money they will receive as liquidation, he also explaining that the promise was that when the Mayan Train begins operation, they will be rehired.

As mention before, this Saturday Andrés Manuel López Obrador has an event in the new municipality of Dzitbalché to supervise the works of the Mayan Train, but according to the union leader, this will not be a reason for protest because the liquidated workers are satisfied with the settlements that are from 100 to 500 thousand pesos.
