Mazatlán wants to be a “Creative City in Gastronomy”

Given the pandemic that affects the economy, in Sinaloa and Mazatlán we are more united than ever so that the city continues to be the best destination in Mexico, said the Secretary of Tourism, Oscar Pérez Barros, when announcing the gastronomic festival “El Otro Sabor de Mazatlán ”with several objectives and two of them are: to relaunch the candidacy of Mazatlán as“ Creative City in Gastronomy ”, a distinctive awarded by UNESCO, and the other to achieve a“ Tourism Tianguis of Gastronomy in Mazatlán ”.

Accompanied by chefs Julián Portugal Díaz and Luis Osuna Vidaurri, as well as José Gámez, commercial and marketing director of Grupo Pueblo Bonito-Emerald Bay, Pérez Barros said that the state government, thanks to the sensitivity of Quirino Ordaz Coppel, is for the promotion of all these projects that bring more tourism and economy to the state.

At the press conference, from the La Marea restaurant, in the Mazatlán Mirador, were several members of the collective of chefs called COSINAR, main promoters of the gastronomic festival “El Otro Sabor de Mazatlán”.

It was reported that the event will last two days and that on December 10 there will be a dinner for 200 people at Quinta Echeguren, where 14 local chefs and two national guests will participate: Lula Martín del Campo from Mexico City and Carlos Valdez from La Paz, Baja California Sur.

The event will be attended as a guest by chef Rosie O’Connor and local and national influencers specialized in gastronomy and tourism activities. In this context, a tribute will be paid to chef Marino Maganda and the relaunch of Mazatlán’s candidacy as “Creative City in Gastronomy” will be announced.

From what is collected from that dinner, funds will be taken to make a “dinner with a cause” for next December 24, where more than one hundred families will be able to enjoy Mazatlan cuisine.

For Friday, December 11, there will be another dinner at Casa 46, where chef Lula Martín del Campo and chef Carlos Valdez will share dishes from their kitchen, made with regional products.
