Despite the fact that 2020 has been a difficult year for the primary sector, in Chiapas bad weather has been reversed with better and greater production in the field.

An example of this is presented in the coffee industry, where Chiapas remains the largest producer nationwide of this organic coffee.

According to data from the Chiapas Economic Development (FEC), until October 31 of this year Chiapas has managed to harvest 378,601 tons of cherry coffee, surpassing states such as Veracruz, Oaxaca, Puebla and Guerrero.

The FEC highlights that two months after completing the annual record of cherry coffee production, this product has already exceeded what was generated in 2019, the year where 367 thousand 874 tons were produced.

Therefore, the agency specifies that the value for this year’s production is estimated at more than a million and a half, considering that in 2019 a profit of 1 million 727 thousand 677 pesos was recorded.

In this sense, the FEC indicates that the districts with the highest production are: Comitán, Motozintla, Palenque, Pichucalco, San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Selva Lacandona, Tapachula, Tonalá, Tuxtla Gutiérrez and Villaflores.
