The bodies of the men who were burned were lifted and handed over to their families; State Attorney General’s Office Announces Lynching Investigation.
Comitán de Domínguez, Chiapas, Mexico.- Two men were burned alive by Tzeltal indigenous people from the El Censo community , in the Lacandon Jungle and located in the municipality of Ocosingo, after being detained by community authorities for the stabbing of a man on Saturday, December 5th.
The Chiapas Attorney General’s Office reported that Francisco and Antonio Vázquez Silvano and Manuel “N” stabbed a man to death in the community, for which hours later they were detained by community authorities.
It was then that the three men were locked up in the community jail, where dozens of Tzeltal indigenous people arrived to get them out of the prison and beat them in the center of town.
After the beating, the Tzeltales suddenly sprayed two of them with gasoline and set them on fire.
The community authorities managed to save Manuel “N”, who this afternoon was placed at the disposal of the Indigenous Justice Prosecutor’s Office.
The bodies of the burned men were picked up and handed over to their relatives.
The community of El Censo, is home to more than 2,000 indigenous Tzeltales and the community is located 76 kilometers east of the municipal seat of Ocosingo, Chiapas.
