Mexican scientists develop product that uses electrostatic field to prevent allergies and bacteria

Mexican specialists created a bioadhesive that, through an artificial electrostatic field, blocks and inactivates particles or aerosols suspended in the air, which can cause allergies as well as various diseases of the respiratory system.

The Coordinator of Medical Research at Carnot Laboratorios, Itzhae López Caso, highlighted the achievement obtained with researchers from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), especially at this time of contingency in the face of Covid-19.

“The line of products that are marketed (an adhesive gel and a solution) have a scientific and technological support based on physical principles with application in pharmaceuticals”, he mentioned.

After the tests carried out, the license has been granted by the Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris), and it was approved only for the cosmetics area.

He pointed out that the bioadhesive that comes in gel presentation is placed around the nostrils, mouth, and eyes, creating an electric field that can neutralize foreign particles, dust and pollen, and even viruses and bacteria.

In the case of the solution, it is placed in the mask, and in both cases, the duration is four hours, so at the end of the term, the protection must be placed again.

In this way, the product blocks the entry of particles through these organs, which are the gateway to many diseases, such as the recent Covid-19 coronavirus.

“The development of this product was in charge of Mexican specialists and a laboratory in the country, dedicated to the pharmaceutical study, he stressed.

López Caso stated that the materials with which the product is made generate an electrostatic field that prevents aerosol-shaped particles from passing into the nasal passage, eyes, and mouth.

“This season we have several respiratory diseases caused by particles suspended in the air that spread easily, even when an infected person speaks, sneezes or coughs,” he added.

“Furthermore, VR Protect, serves as an additional barrier to personal protective equipment, since the technology is based on Coulomb’s law, also known as the law of charges”, the expert continued.

He noted that the added protection is particularly helpful in the current Covid-19 pandemic and current flu season.

“The VR Protective Gel and Spray were created by Mexican researchers and have an international patent application,” he stressed.

Finally, he concluded that both products are portable, since thanks to their size they are ideal to carry daily in your purse or backpack.
