Former president of BBVA Mexico and ABM Luis Robles Miaja dies at age 60

Banker Luis Robles Miaja, former chairman of the Board of Directors of Grupo Financiero BBVA México, in addition to heading the Association of Banks of Mexico (ABM) at the time, died at the age of 60.

Through his Twitter account, the financial institution reported that Robles Miaja died on the night of Thursday, November 19, in Mexico City.

Luis Robles was born in Mexico City on April 28, 1960. He graduated in 1984 with a law degree and began his career as managing partner at the firm Robles y Zaldívar until 1993.

In 1993, he joined the Financial Group as General Legal Director of Grupo Financiero BBV México, a position he held until 1998, when he was appointed General Legal Director for Latin America of BBVA.

In 2000, he served as General Legal Director for the Americas of BBVA, a position he held until 2007, the year in which he was appointed Director and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors. From 2012 to 2018 he served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of BBVA Bancomer and also chaired the Association of Banks of Mexico (ABM) between 2015 and 2017, from where he carried out union work for the benefit of the sector and the Mexican financial system in its set.

Due to his career and experience, he participated frequently in various forums in the banking and financial sectors. In the Latin American Federation of Banks (FELABAN) he served as second vice president in the period 2010-2012.
