Museum of Mayan Archeology in Campeche resumes activities

The Museum of Mayan Archeology, better known as the Fort of San Miguel, resumes activities this Wednesday, with a capacity of no more than 30 percent and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. by official provision of the Ministry of Health. Currently, the walled enclosure, which was closed for seven months, has 10 exhibition rooms where pieces from various pre-Hispanic settlements of Xkalumkin, Becan, Jaina, Calakmul, and Edzná are located.

The Social Communication Office of the federal agency reported that the archaeological sites of Hochob, Dzibilnocac, Balam Ku, Xpujil, El Hormiguero, and El Tigre are also yet to be opened.

The first visitors to enter the site were a couple living in the United States but of Mexican origin, so the head of the Ministry of Tourism, Jorge Manos Esparragoza, said that there is already a presence of national and international tourism and this gives way to that with coordination, more recreation areas can be opened under the care of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), as well as by the Ministry of Tourism.
