In San José Chiapa, Puebla, they demand that Audi pay taxes on property and water consumption.

Municipal officials shut down the plant of German automaker Audi in Puebla late on Friday, October 16th, due to a dispute over unpaid taxes and services.

A state official, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the closure of the assembly plant, which opened in 2016.

According to the newspaper El Universal, officials from the San José Chiapa municipality, where the plant is located, closed the facility after several hours of talks without reaching any agreements.

The newspaper said that municipal authorities are requesting the payment of 90 million pesos for debts in the local property tax and for water consumption.
