Mazatlan surfers act with social responsibility

This weekend the event Surfing con Causa took place, to collect clothes for vulnerable people

Mazatlán.- The new reality encourages creativity, to act with social responsibility, to reconnect with ourselves and with nature.

Under these principles, the Surfing Association of the State of Sinaloa chaired by Feliciano Altamirano and under the initiative of Eduardo Barba, the Surfing with a Cause event was held this weekend in Playa Brujas.


The intention of the event, the first of its kind since the Covid-19 health emergency was decreed, was to collect clothes for the most vulnerable and low-income people.

“We thank everyone for the support, for the trust, moral and economic, for trusting me as president of the association and in the responsibility of the surfers that we have with society,” said Altamirano.

Each of the competitors delivered at least three garments in good or new condition that will be delivered to the Mazatlán DIF System, to be channeled to popular neighborhoods or any institution that may need them.

A total of 50 surfers participated, including six women, divided into three categories, men’s surfing, women’s surfing, and bodyboarding, complying with the health and healthy distance protocols established by the Mazatlán Civil Protection coordinator, Eloy Ruiz Gastélum.

“The important thing is to become aware of this new normal, surfing is a lifestyle that we are adapting to it, we are doing our part and although we are not the majority, we want to be an example, create awareness in people, locals or visitors, on the care to stop the covid “, expressed.

Among the most prominent surfers who participated in the event were Rodrigo Arregui, Pablo Cárdenas, Marcos Galindo, Antonio Ravena, Emmanuel Lomelí, and Jonathan Hernández, among others.

“Thanks to our Mayor, Luis Guillermo Benítez Torres, and the director of Imdem, Humberto Álvarez, for supporting in a responsible way the return to activities, in this case, sports,” he said.

Before the start of the competition that took place Saturday and Sunday, the temperature of the participants and staff of judges was taken, the use of antibacterial gel and face masks was implemented in common areas, in addition to delimiting the entry of people and keeping social distancing.
