Mayor Benítez says Mazatlán is the first tourist destination in Mexico to recover from COVID-19

The city of Mazatlán, also known as ‘The Pearl of the Pacific’, overcomes the covid-19 pandemic and recovers its tourist perception with 150 thousand visitors, between Mexicans and foreigners, in high season and 75 thousand during low season, said Luis Guillermo Benítez Torres, its president.

In an interview, Benítez Torres said that in the new normal, the port rescued 85 percent of air connectivity.

“We are practically recovering, we are receiving 75 thousand tourists a week even with the pandemic, not counting the tourists who book through the private online platforms, in addition, I spoke with the   North Central Airport Group (OMA) and they informed me that it recovered the 85 percent of connectivity by air, ” the mayor continued.

Luis Guillermo Benítez also reported that, with the transition of the state to the yellow color on the National Epidemiological Traffic Light, he expects 300 thousand visitors in the area by the end of this year.

He pointed out that by December, the “Pearl of the Pacific” will double its hotel capacity, with the opening of 9 hotels and 4,100 new hotel rooms available for the benefit of Mexican and foreign visitors.

“Right now we have 3,900 rooms, but 19 hotels are under construction in Mazatlan, so in another 2 or 3 months, we will reach 8 thousand rooms, ”Benítez concluded.
