Mayor Benítez Torres condemned the actions of the women’s collective for disrespecting a building that is the heritage of Mazatlán

Mazatlan, Sinaloa- The Mayor of Mazatlán, Luis Guillermo Benítez Torres, disapproved and rejected the attitude taken yesterday by a group of women called ‘Pearl of the Pacific’, who demonstrated the decriminalization of abortion and painted the walls of the Municipal Palace.

Visibly annoyed, the mayor of Mazatlán announced that due to these facts, he will proceed legally before the corresponding actions.

“We are going to make the necessary legal sanctions since the paintings that were made represent damage to the building that is yours, mine and everyone’s,” he said.

He reiterated that the criminal sanctions will be filed, not for the demonstration, but for causing damage to a historic property.

“I come from a movement where we have demonstrated for years and have never harmed third parties,” he compared.

Benítez Torres said that they have fully identified those who disturbed the order, and as evidence, they have photographs and data of all the participants.

“I come from a movement to demonstrate against the lack of democracy in this country and we respect it, but we never broke a glass. It is reprehensible that they attack the heritage of a city, it is irresponsible, “he added.

Finally, he clarified that this measure they will take is not to restrict their freedom of expression, but to attack the building that belongs to the citizens.
