Mazatlan’s Luna Bonita Beach receives clean beach certification

The Beach Operator and Administrator and the Pueblo Bonito and Luna Palace hotels worked together in the certification process

Mazatlan, Sinaloa.- Playa Luna Bonita received this Thursday the white flag that certifies it as “Clean Beach”, under the rule 120, NMX-AA-120-SCFI-2016. 

The certification of this section of 514 meters, which includes the strip of the Pueblo Bonito and Luna Palace hotels, was achieved in February 2020, after months of joint work between the municipal administration headed by the Mayor, Luis Guillermo Benítez Torres, through the Beach Operator and the hotel companies. 

The “Clean Beach” certification was carried out by the Mexican Institute for Standardization and Certification, an organization that reviews in a documentary way and in the field that the beach complies with all the requirements of the standard, such as water quality, correct waste management robust, coastal infrastructure, safety and services, biodiversity, environmental management initiatives, and contributions. 

The event of delivery and raising of the white flag was led by the Director of the Beach Operator, Jorge Contreras Núñez, who recognized the hotel companies for the effort they make to keep the beach clean, in addition to reiterating the call to the citizens, in general, to contribute so that the beaches of Mazatlán are kept free of waste. 

On behalf of the mayor, Luis Guillermo Benítez Torres, the councilor Isabel Gamboa de Chicuate, a member of the OAP Governing Board, presented the white flags to the representatives of the hotels, Mario Juárez, Pueblo Bonito’s Director of Operations and Raúl Hernández, General Manager of Luna Palace. 

The president of the Governing Board of the Operadora de Playas, Lance Vient, and the President of Codesin Zona Sur, Alfredo Ruelas Solís, counselor of the OAP; who invited citizens, authorities, and private initiative to continue the efforts for the cleaning and management of beaches in Mazatlán.
