DNA Barcelona Architects has revealed new details of its Cocoon Hotel & Resort project in Tulum, under “a new concept of ecotourism inspired by the sea and the exotic jungle” in an area of 46,181 m2 that houses huge buildings inspired “by the primordial sensation of the nests and the need for protection, ”says the company.

Cocoon Hotel & Resort, located in Selvazama, a sustainable development in the middle of the jungle of Tulum, will have 3 developments and 2 buildings of the Cocoon hotel, with 204 apartments and 167 rooms along with 16 private villas.

Its design is based on the connection between the natural environment and geometry, say those responsible. “Each cocoon represents by itself the community that meets at the center, where the pools are simulating a cenote.”

“The organization of the cocoons allows maximum visibility of the natural landscape, in a silent and reserved context”, underline the creators of the project through a statement. The complex offers natural pools, gym, kid’s club, conference hall, bar and restaurant, gardens and outdoor villas. Everything integrated to achieve a bio-mimicry architecture.

“DNA emphasizes the concept of sustainability respecting the ecosystem and biodiversity, using natural materials that minimize the impact of construction and generation of waste.”

Beyond materials, the water harvesting system will capture rain for use in wastewater treatment, while solar panels will be installed to achieve sustainable electricity.
